Blazers: Season Over
I was prepared to write something about the Blazers tonight no matter whether they lost the game (and the series) or whether they won and forced a Game 7. In retrospect, it may not have been a great idea. I know that I'm not a very good reactionary writer (or a reactionary anything, really.) I think for this reason it would be extremely difficult for me to have the job of a sportswriter where I was somehow emotionally invested in the subject at hand. I usually find it best to give everything time to sink in before I weigh in on anything. This has helped me avoid a lot of senseless battles at my workplace, as well.
I'm afraid I might turn into this guy if I was a traditional, shoot-from-the-hip sports blogger.
On another note - and here's something that doesn't affect me at all living in Portland but it makes absolutely no sense to me - the entire first half of the game was not broadcast outside of local markets tonight. Since the Chicago/Boston series went to triple-overtime and did not finish until halftime of the Blazers game, if you were looking for the game to be on TNT you pretty much were forced to enjoy the basketball stylings of Brad Miller. I can't really complain about a 3OT playoff game in what is turning out to be one of the best first round NBA playoff matchups of all-time, but other major sports have figured out how to handle playoff coverage without missing a minute of the action. During the MLB playoffs, the cable and broadcast networks that show the games are always set to use an alternate channel for games that might be just getting underway while a preceding game is finishing. Nothing like that, apparently, ever happens during the NBA playoffs, which makes no sense to me.
Anyway, it's very sad to see this season come to an end. I'll plan on working in a true recap sometime over the weekend which will coincide, hopefully, with a planned sports card purchasing venture. Hopefully.
In hindsight, I probably should have burned another Yao Ming card. I was hoping to dig up a Luis Scola card, but the only other current in-uniform Rocket card I own also happened to be Yao. What was I waiting for?
(Disclaimer: the image is an AP photo I got from a Blazers fan site. I didn't have a moment-appropriate basketball card at the ready for this one.)
Wait, what channel was the 1st half on last night? I looked for it a couple times but couldn't find it.
ReplyDeleteAll the games were on KGW locally. That was a good move at least for the people who can't get CSN.
