Airbrushed Fridays: 1985 Topps #573
Does the card in this link look airbrushed to you? I went so far as to scan it for today's post before I took a second and third look before going in another direction.
Who is this week's victim, and why do we care? Jay Tibbs was a journeyman right-handed starting pitcher who spent 7 years in the big leagues. Tibbs was a second round pick of the soon to be pitching rich New York Mets, who later dealt him to Cincinnati where he'd begin his career. His best season was his first full season - 1985.
Why is this a thing? Tibbs made 14 starts for the Reds during the previous season, but apparently Topps had no photographic record of this. And now you know that Jay Tibbs' rookie card is airbrushed.
Airbrushed Fridays is a weekly feature as the name seems to imply. If you know of a card with an altered photograph that you'd like to see featured, please contact me. You probably won't win anything other than some losing betting slips from Derby weekend, but you never know!
