Fun With Numbers

Community Gum hosted a recent contest-slash-giveaway involving the truly confounding 2008 Moments & Milestones set. I've long since given up trying to figure this set out, and by and large it was panned by most collectors. I'm still a sucker for serial numbered cards, although I have to say that I am not much of a fan of serial numbering on the front of the card. It always belongs on the back. Always.

The contest involved guessing the correct combination of card number, milestone number (e.g. Carp's 7th win out of the 21 he notched in 2005) and the serial number of the card itself. Again, it's not my favorite set or anything, but it's not too bad as long as you're a fan of one of the few players in this somewhat exclusive club.

SIGN PUJOLS ALREADY! Er, sorry, that kinda just slipped out. Part of this whole Pujols extension talk is making me think about the maximum contract deal the Blazers gave Brandon Roy a couple of summers ago and how it's looking right about now. But no... I need to keep things positive. Besides, Roy is coming back soon and...

Who cares! It's not my money. Spend it. SPEND IT! AHHHH.

Okay, it's time to focus again. Community Gum is a fun blog and I was very happy with the cards that came my way in this deal. And even though he's not yet in Cardinal red here, the Matt Holliday card might be the best looking of the whole lot. Just don't make me do math ever again, Topps... because I have no idea how many of these parallels inside of parallels I'm supposed to chase.

  1. That was one ambitious giveaway they did. I couldn't believe I ended up with a 1/1 out of the deal, but it was nice.

  2. If Pujols somehow ends up with the Yankees (which I suppose is much more logical than ending up with, say, the Royals), I'm going to have to do something very bad to all my Yankees cards.

  3. When I was still collecting Granderson, M&M was my white whale. I think that I'm still about 25 cards away from completing it.

As for serial numbering, I actually prefer it on the front, especially when it is stamped, hand written and/or somewhat discrete. Maybe I'm alone in this.
