Up For Grabs: Tom Terrific

I've got Tom Seaver cards and you want them! Well, at least the first part may be true. Tom Terrific is next up on my list of players that I'm clearing out of my old binders. As always, the full list of cards available follows at the end of this post.

I miss Stadium Club. Can Topps bring back a non-gimmicked Stadium Club soon? Please?

This one has a weird notchy thing in it which you can sort of see on the scan (near the upper left border.) Otherwise, it's in decent shape.

If this hadn't been such a maddeningly flimsy and easy to blemish set, I probably would have been interested in collecting it someday.

Members of a dying breed. 300 game winners are more or less extinct in today's game. I wonder if there will be a new adjusted benchmark for excellence or if people will finally realize that pitching wins are pretty arbitrary.

Airbrushed Fridays: 1986 Topps Traded #101T

Let's make this one short and sweet. I reached back into the traded sets for a reason - I needed something quick to post for today's entry. Between work obligations, other home projects and a They Might Be Giants concert this week, I just haven't had as much time to post this week.

Tom Seaver was a Hall of Famer. That's all you really need to know. Google him if you were born after 1985. If you're a fan of the man, you're probably already cringing at the thought of him in yet another uniform as it is.

Why did Topps airbrush Tom's photo? Actually, I don't have a great answer for this one. Sure, he was traded midseason and only wound up pitching 16 games with Boston before calling it quits, but he was a surefire HOFer so you would think that Topps would bend over backwards to get an accurate photo for what would be one of the marquee veteran cards in the set.

What's wrong with this picture, anyway? This is a Mike Laga-style disaster, which is why I chose it for today. The only thing missing is the pink uniform. This card actually looks like Tom's face was photoshopped onto a bad oil painting from a middle school class.
