A Public Service Announcement (or Two)

Get your want lists ready!

ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER ONE: It's been awhile since I've done a large scale giveaway on this blog. I'm still trying to catch up with some projects over the summer, all of which include reducing the number of cards in my home. Since we're nearing the holiday season and I'm feeling rather "generous", I am going to be hitting up your want lists in the coming days and weeks. If I don't have a recent address from you on file, I may be hitting you up. If you don't have a sizable want list on your blog (or don't have a blog at all, you maniac!), I may be hitting up your inbox for ideas. My goal is to try to send at least 40 packages out the door before the end of the year, and possibly a lot more.

As always, feel free to send me something you think I'll need. Being that it's the holidays, I am going to use this as an excuse to send these as gifts and not expect anything in return. If I get something back, it will be a great surprise! And after the New Year, I am going to make it a goal to start setting some ground rules for trading so I don't end up with a closet full of '88 Donruss Jim Lindeman cards like I have right now.

ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER TWO: The Blazers might be good this year! A 5-2 start to this season has cautious optimism dripping and trickling through the Rose City (we've been burned by a few fast starts in recent years). I would and do collect the Blazers no matter how down they are, but it's still a nice excuse to show off some cards of the local twelve that were sent to me by the always excellent Sportscards From The Dollar Store. (That would be a 95 Cent Store in the States, blah blah exchange rate humor blah.)

Chris Dudley ran for governor of Oregon in 2010 and narrowly lost. He was terrible at shooting free throws before Shaq made being terrible at shooting free throws "cool". (It was never cool.)

The cornerstone of this exchange was this slick autograph from slick Darius Miles. Miles came into the league a little before LeBron James and had similar exposure in the beginning, with his high school games televised on ESPN and all that. I'm not going to say being drafted by the Clippers ruined him, but it didn't help. Miles showed flashes of greatness when the Blazers got ahold of him, but those flashes were fleeting and possibly motivated by something other than the love for the game or whatever nonsense people talk about when they are waxing poetic about sports. He blew out his knee, cost the Blazers a lot of money when he tried to comeback from forced medical retirement, and is presumably eating ice cream somewhere in front of a PS4 prototype or something.

I love the odd Duck card, especially when it's a basketball card. Antoine Stoudamire was the lesser known cousin of Damon Stoudamire, and both played basketball here locally in Portland. He does hip hop now.

Finally, $1-store sent a little stack of 2013 Bowman Cardinals cards, which put a perfect touch on the whole thing. I haven't purchased much Bowman product this year, which is something I'll probably change if I start seeing stuff discounted. That would be nice. Piscotty is playing in the Arizona Fall League right now and could be one of the next young Cardinal prospects to hit the big leagues soon. Things have been going well in that department lately.

  1. I guess it goes to show how far in advance they make the caeds for Bowman since Piscotty is an outfielder now.
The back of his card in Inception mentions his transition to the outfield, while still stating "3B" on the front...
