Airbrushed Fridays: 2008 Topps #464
Chunter submits today's Airbrushed Fridays entry and the keyboard gets hijacked.
im writing a blog post. it's kinda cool that i am getting to do such a thing.. i am not permitted to do so ever. i just hijacked this blog because kerry dropped a pushpin on the floor. i have taken over for all the times. get ready to get your face rocked with the cool stuff i am going to share with you. save it. and oh ya. kerry is sweating on me. but i like it.
Who is this week's victim, and why do we care? Now that I have wrested control of the keys away from Erin, I will introduce you to Rocco Baldelli, the 6th overall pick of the 2000 draft. Baldelli was best known for practically being cursed, suffering injury after injury and a serious battle with an unspecified medical issue. He retired shy of his 30th birthday, which had to have been frustrating for someone who ascended to a starting job in the majors just a few years out of high school.
Why is this a thing? As mentioned above, today's card was submitted by Chunter, who alerted me to the fact that Topps had previously used the same stupid trick they used with most of last year's Marlins and Blue Jays cards. Back in 2008, the Rays were due for a new look (and ditched the Devil) and Topps was happy to provide new Photoshopped photos.
Airbrushed Fridays is a weekly feature as the name seems to imply. If you know of a card with an altered photograph that you'd like to see featured, please contact me. You probably won't win anything other than a few beads of my sweat, but you never know!
