Good Luck Ducks, Week 11: Feeling Husky?

Oregon hosts their old rival from up I-5.

The Ducks will look to keep it rolling today when they take on the Washington Huskies in the first of three tough games to finish out the conference schedule. Next up is the Utah team that trounced them twice last season, and always they'll finish things off with Oregon State (in Corvallis!) But there should be no looking past the Huskies right now, considering that they have re-entered the rankings after three straight wins.

Washington came into the season with a bit of hype surrounding their quarterback transfer with a goofy name. (Oregon has one of those of their own.) This rivalry has gotten a bit... nasty... over the years, and it certainly less good natured than the more celebrated one with the Beavers. The Huskies are at Autzen for the first time in four years, and will certainly have their work cut out for them in trying to knock off the #6 team with an 8 game winning streak overall and a 25 game winning streak at home. However, the Ducks have been prone to giving up heaps of passing yards at a time (sound familiar?) while Washington's QB came into the week leading the nation in passing yards. It sounds like an intriguing match!

Notes and other things:
  • That QB transfer with the goofy name is, of course, Michael Penix Jr. His name gives me the giggles. Unlike Bo Nix, however, Penix (Jr.) is a junior and could continue to wreak havoc in the conference for another season.
  • The weather is looking nice in Eugene tonight, so we continue for that nasty weather game. Chilly, but nice.
  • The Ducks decade-plus of dominance came to a screeching halt when the Huskies put up 70 points at Autzen against Justin Herbert making his first start as a freshman. Since then, I think Oregon has been a bit salty about it. I could see a lot of points scored in this one.
  • Expect The Duck to have some sort of weird Husky toy to play with on the sidelines today. He's gone through with his usual bit of trolling the mascot this week.
Game time is 4:00 PM PST on Fox in Eugene. Go Ducks!

  1. Entertaining game so far, even for someone with no dog (or duck) in the fight.
