30 Teams in 30 Posts: #21

We're up to #21 on the countdown as we've reached just the second American League team on my list. If you asked me at any point which team is my second least favorite in the AL, I doubt that there's any way the White Sox would have come to mind, but here we are. In many ways, the 2005 World Series was one of the least appealing and least memorable of all-time for my own taste. While hardly as despicable as the Cubs, I found the homerish antics of their TV announcers to be appalling and couldn't really get behind any of their players, either.

And then there's their manager. He's really obnoxious. While Sox supporters probably find him to be a wacky, lovable oaf or some such thing, but I'm just not seeing it. In the end, I do give them credit for beating an even more unlikable Houston team in the World Series, but they are in my bottom ten for reason. I think.

Favorite current White Sox player: Mark Buehrle. He likes the Cardinals and he's from just outside St. Louis. What can I say?

Least favorite current White Sox player: A.J. Pierzynski. This shouldn't be a big surprise. I could see Pierzynski and Curt Schilling one day having their own talk show that nobody in their right minds should ever listen to.

Favorite White Sox player of all-time: Frank Thomas. I'm not Frank Thomas Fan Number One, exactly, but he was fun to watch and an absolute monster of a human baseball player from day one.

Least favorite White Sox player of all-time: Sammy Sosa. Speaking of monsters, I was just watching the 2002 Home Run Derby on MLB Network the other day. Sosa looked absolutely crazy, like he was injected with some sort of Hulk serum. I know Sammy was only on the White Sox for a few years, but I can't really think of anyone else that bugs me more at the moment.

The Chicago White Sox check in at #21 in my reverse-ranking of favorite teams as of the moment I picked them on October 4th, 2010. All of these cards are very much up for trade, so please contact me if you're interested.

I'd be very much interested in the McCarthy/Lopez auto and the Magglio Victory Red.

Completely agree about the announcers. I think that's what's kept me away this whole time and drove me to the Cubs.
I'd be happy to take that Frank Thomas Bowman Chrome off your hands

I'll go ahead and set those cards aside for both of you.

Steve, the Magglio card is numbered 24/25 (it's hard to see from the scan or even when you look at the card.)

Jon, the Thomas card is a refractor, by the way. Hope you don't mind.

Still looking for something comparable to the Magglio. I'll contact you when I do. :-)
