Wednesday Morning Miscellany

There's a lot going on right now, but I'll start with a package I received recently from reader Daniel from Arizona. He knocked off another group of wants from my 2009 Heritage list, including Mr. Elbert up there. I think this year's rookie class has been a lot more promising than last year's (not including that Longoria guy) but I haven't really followed Elbert. I am pretty sure I end up with more Dodgers cards these days than any other team's.

Jake Peavy had almost become an afterthought when he was traded to the White Sox. I wonder if he got jealous from the constant Roy Halladay trade updates when he finally decided to approve the deal that sent him to Chicago.

Ryan Doumit is now the longest tenured Pittsburgh Pirate, which we now know thanks to a lot of thorough research by JayBee and his very excellent Topps-centric blog.

This is definitely the first baseball card I've ever owned that only showed a piece of equipment and nothing else.

Thanks again to Daniel, who received a group of Diamondbacks cards in return. My 2008 and 2009 Heritage want lists are updated now as usual.

I think it's safe to say that the Albert Pujols Slump Watch is officially over. With apologies to to the SNY crew (Gary Cohen, Ron Darling and Keith Hernandez) who usually put on one of the more professional local broadcasts in the game, I was incredibly pleased to see the Cards beat up on Mets pitchers and make comeback after comeback. Game-winning bases loaded HBP? Hilarious. Even more hilarious when it's followed up by Albert's NL record-tying 5th grand slam this season. I kind of feel bad for the hard-luck Mets, who suffered another bizarre injury when Luis Castillo slipped on the dugout steps during the game, but the Mets broadcasters were incredibly critical of nearly every move the Cards' players made last night for whatever reason. Maybe the season is getting to them. I hate to be one of those people who talks to the television when watching games, as if the broadcasters can hear me, but I did it a lot this time.

Giveaways! Contests! I have some plans in the works to try and dispose of the unclaimed minor league cards in my collection after my little giveaway around Christmas time. I will announce this soon. Also, I have accumulated quite a bit of "bad wax" - bad enough that there are packs that even I have no motivation to open and have been pretty content having them lay around collecting dust. Normally with any packs it's really hard to wait until I walk in my front door before opening everything up, so you have to know that it's pretty bad. I need to come up with some ideas for the contest itself, so if anyone has any suggests, feel free to let me know.
