Good Luck Ducks, Week 2: Cavalier Cavalry

Oregon heads to the east coast for the first time since 1977.

The Ducks put up a record setting 772 yards last week against a terrible team, but it's time to move on to a road test against a Virginia Cavaliers team that is coming off an ugly defensive struggle with BYU. Virginia won the game and is no slouch - they were a bowl team as recently as two years ago.

I wouldn't expect today's game to be a close contest, but if we're going to see some early season struggles with some of the younger players, this one would be where some of the kinks will get worked out. It's hard to really know what to make of this Ducks team when their line opened up so many holes against an outmanned Nicholls team that three different players gained more than 100 yards. Oregon continues to be loaded in the running game, but I'd expect to see Marcus Mariota's arm to be plenty active as well. This also could be the debut of highly touted rookie Thomas Tyner if things get out of hand, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm guessing this will be a high scoring contest, titled in the Ducks favor, but I think it won't be as smooth sailing as many would think. Hopefully the Ducks can hang onto their #2 ranking and put this one away early, but it could be closer than we realize.

Here's a look at last season's Fiesta Bowl, the last game Oregon played away from Autzen Stadium.

Game time is is 12:30 PDT with national coverage on ABC or ESPN2, depending on where you live. Go Ducks!
